The Center for Green Schools, accelerating a global green schools movement

The Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council works with school decision-makers, community volunteers and thought leaders to drive progress at the intersection of sustainability, education, public health and the built environment.

We connect volunteers and green school advocates worldwide.
Every year, tens of thousands of volunteers participate in the global Green Apple Day of Service to make our schools healthier and more sustainable. The Center also hosts the annual Green Schools Conference & Expo to connect green schools advocates nationwide.

We recognize those who have made significant strides in the green schools movement.
The U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools award honors educational institutions and school districts demonstrating leadership in green schools.

The Green Strides web portal, powered by the Center, connects schools with free and public resources.

Learning Lab is our online platform providing STEM-based, sustainability curriculum and training for K-12 teachers.

The Green Classroom Professional Certificate program provides pre-K-12 educators and staff with the knowledge to identify what supports healthy and sustainable learning spaces.

Through our Green Schools Fellowship and Scholarship Programs, we convene a network of sustainability professionals working in school systems across the country.
