Funding for clean energy and natural areas - Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation

The mission of The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation is to provide funding to improve energy efficiency, advance the development and use of renewable energy resources, and protect natural areas and wildlife habitat in communities all across Illinois.

Our principal program areas are Energy and Natural Areas. To date, we have awarded over 5,000 grants providing $258 million to Illinois nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities and other local and state government agencies.

The Foundation awarded 10 grants in 2016 to applicants seeking support for land acquisition projects to protect an additional 1,100 acres, as well as 11 grants to 501c3 organizations through its Community Stewardship Program. These grants help organizations improve habitat and build community support for the care of native habitats.

The Foundation is currently evaluating several proposed net zero building project applications, and looks forward to supporting additional projects.

As we continue grant-making, the Foundation will support projects that create energy efficient facilities in the state or protect natural areas and wildlife habit.
