Study Geography and Environmental Studies at Northeastern Illinois University

At Northeastern Illinois University, The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies offers a B.A. in Geography, a B.A. in Environmental Studies, and an M.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies.

UNDERGRADUATE

Environmental studies focuses on the health and restoration of the natural environment through policy, planning, and environmental education and interpretation. The program emphasizes the interface between the human and natural environments.

Geography focuses on location, distribution, and spatial processes which reflect and affect society and the natural environment. The Geography degree emphasizes courses in physical, human, and regional geography, as well as techniques such as computer cartography and Geographic Information Systems.

GRADUATE

Geography and Environmental Studies are broad fields bridging the human and natural environments, and come together nicely for a graduate M.A. in G&ES.

NEIU offers many opportunities in Chicago for internships, field excursions, and first-hand experience in area environmental and geographic organizations.

With 150 students, the Department of G&ES has seven full-time faculty members and enlists local professionals to teach courses in their area of specialty.
