Creating organic food gardens for disfavored Texans: the Green Corn Project

Green Corn Project (GCP) is a grassroots, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit that installs organic food gardens for elderly, low-income, and disabled Central Texans, as well as for elementary schools, community centers, and shelters in underserved areas of Austin.

We turn unused land into garden beds that provide food, education, and a sense of accomplishment and pride for all involved in their creation and maintenance.

DIG-INS

Dig-ins are our primary mission. This is when teams of volunteers go to garden sites and either install new gardens or clean up existing ones.

SEEDS TO STARTS WORKSHOPS

At these hands-on workshops, participants learn how to prepare soil for seeds, how to plant seeds, and how to transfer seedlings into starter pots. GCP uses the starter plants produced in these workshops in our gardens.

GET INVOLVED

Volunteering with Green Corn Project is a great way to start or enhance your gardening journey, help someone else do the same, and meet some great people.

No experience is needed to be a volunteer. Individuals, groups, and accompanied children are welcome.

“GROW LOCALLY, COOK GLOBALLY” FESTIVAL

Every fall, we host an exciting festival of local food and music to raise funds for Green Corn Project.
