Sachamama - helping Latino communities achieve sustainability

Sachamama is a Miami-based organization building support for a 100% clean-energy economy for all, with a specific emphasis on developing sustainable attitudes, behaviors & lifestyles within Latino communities. We develop culturally sensitive strategies to provide the Latino community with needed tools to become a political force for climate action.

We focus on three goals: increasing media coverage on climate issues, accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy and creating a new generation of climate activists.

Our programs include:
• “Latinos por la Tierra”, which brings climate change to the forefront of Latino conversations;
• “Volviendo a mis Raíces” - a half-day climate training experience to help us determine our role in creating a more sustainable future;
• “The Climate Innovation Lab” - a collaborative space that empowers the Latino community to act on climate by promoting advocacy, leadership development, and community based and policy related climate action.

Sachamama is a word in Quechua, a language spoken in the Amazon & South American Andes; it means “Mother Jungle”.

Our work is based on the principles of Sumak-Kawsay (good living), part of the cosmovision of the Quechua people, which promotes harmony among people and people and nature.
